He also has one personality trait in common with many Japanese action heroes: once Jin's mind is focused in any particular direction, it is immensely difficult to get him to change or even notice the events and people around him.
Although he is portrayed as a monster in his devil form, in general, he is never portrayed as evil (unlike Kazuya and Heihachi), and everything that he does, he believes he does for a good reason. Jin's personality ranges from stoic and calm to rude and arrogant at times, and his words and actions hint at bitterness within him. However, after everything he went through, he seemed to have lost much of his human compassion. It is known that Jin used to be "sweet and nice" (as described by Xiaoyu and mentioned by other characters), before all of the above-mentioned events happened. Each of these occurs to a helpless and unassuming Jin, who is simply doing what he can to set things right at every turn (although his choices in Tekken 6 are pointed out by other characters to be too great a cost, and evil in nature). Sixthly, the appearance of Azazel prompts him to corrupt the Mishima Zaibatsu further just for the chance to face the beast and sacrifice himself to destroy it. Fifthly, the return of his great-grandfather, Jinpachi Mishima, has caused him to begin losing his internal struggle with the Devil within. Fourthly, he finds he has inherited an evil Devil that he cannot control or get rid of and embodies all of the evil in the Mishimas he has been fighting against.
Thirdly, he was betrayed by his grandfather, whom he trusted deeply.
Secondly, his mother was cruelly and abruptly taken from him while he was still a teenager. As with many tragic heroes, all of the major traumatic events that occur within the hero's life are beyond his control.įirst and foremost, there's the fact that his father and grandfather are two of the most evil and ruthless individuals who've ever lived on the face of the earth. Jin's actions and surroundings fit the mold of a quintessential "tragic hero". He was then taken in by Heihachi, who began to train him in Mishima-style Karate. He began searching for his mother, with no success, and, enraged, Jin swore revenge. Hours after the chaos, Jin, who had fallen unconscious, awoke amongst the rubble with a devil brand on his arm. Jun's premonitions proved to be true, as she was attacked by Ogre four days later on Jin's 15th birthday. She also told him that if anything were to happen to her, he should look for his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima. Several years later, Jun sensed the approaching of a great evil and decided that it was about time she told Jin about his origins. Afterwards, Jun moved to a remote location in the mountains on her home island of Yakushima, where she raised Jin and trained him in the Kazama family's self-defense fighting style. The devil, that fled Kazuya when he was thrown into a volcano by his father, attempted to enter Jin while he was still in his mother's womb, but Jun managed to fight it off. Jun's intimate relationship with Kazuya grew and she became pregnant with Jin. Jin Kazama is the son of Jun Kazama and Kazuya Mishima.
